Campaign Trainings for Women

Emerge Oregon
Sponsored by Emerge America
Emerge Oregon is a political leadership training program for Democratic women, part of the Emerge America network. The Emerge mission is to identify, educate, and inspire Democratic women who want to pursue careers in politics at the local and state levels.   Twenty to 25 applicants are chosen annually to participate in once-monthly weekend meetings and workshops over the course of six months.

Oregon Women's Campaign School
The Oregon Women’s Campaign School is a biennial skill-building weekend in Portland for pro-choice candidates, campaign staff and activists of any partisan leaning. Between 100 and 125 attendees participate in campaign and leadership training presented by prominent Oregon political professionals along three tracks for those considering candidacy, campaign professionals, or activists. While dedicated to getting more women involved in politics and elected to office, the Oregon Women’s Campaign School is open to any pro-choice person who wants to learn more about running for office or about working on issue and candidate campaigns. Scholarships and travel stipends are available.

NEW Leadership™ Oregon

NEW Leadership™ Oregon is the women's leadership development program housed at the Center for Women, Politics & Policy at Portland State University. Open to college women enrolled at any college in the state of Oregon, NEW Leadership™ Oregon’s intensive, six-day, residential leadership training program is specifically designed to introduce Oregon's college women to opportunities for public leadership. By participating, college women find out why and how to get involved in politics through interaction with Oregon's past and present women officeholders, candidates, policy specialists, and activists. NEW Leadership™ Oregon is part of the NEW Leadership™ Development Network of the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers University (NJ).

Leadership Portland

Leadership Portland is a program designed to develop community leaders. Participants attend eight monthly program days, in addition to an opening retreat and graduation, where they are educated on a wide array of critical issues affecting Portland and trained in leadership skills necessary to be successful in professional and civic life. By the end of the program, participants develop an integrated overview of how city and state educational, social service, and business systems operate.

Oregon Federation of Democratic Women
The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) supports the inclusion of women’s voices in the Democratic Party. With 32 chapters nationwide, the NFDW promotes Democratic Party goals and candidates and works to unite women party members behind them. NFDW chapters recognize potential women candidates and encourage their candidacies for office. Members attend meetings, organize educational and political events, volunteer for campaigns, and support candidates for office.

Through affiliate chapters in nearly every state, the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) promotes the principles, objectives and policies of the Republican Party; elects Republican candidates; informs the public through political education and activity; and increases the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government. Women’s Political Action Committees (PACs)

Women's Investment Network (WIN-PAC)
WIN-PAC was formed in 1988 solely to help elect non-incumbent, pro-choice women to the Oregon legislature. Under guidelines adopted in 1994, WIN-PAC now supports only Democratic women candidates, but still does not support any candidate challenging a pro-choice Democratic or woman incumbent.
