Campaign Trainings for Women

Emerge New Mexico
Sponsored by Emerge America
Emerge New Mexico is a political leadership training program for Democratic women, part of the Emerge America network. The Emerge mission is to identify, educate, and inspire Democratic women who want to pursue careers in politics at the local and state levels. Twenty to 25 applicants are chosen annually to participate in once-monthly meetings and workshops over the course of seven months.

The New Mexico Democratic Party runs both comprehensive and single-focus trainings throughout the year. Trainings, which cover topics like vote building, canvassing, phone banking, targeting, effective messaging and more, are posted online as scheduled.

Leadership Training Programs (Women and Men)

Leadership Albuquerque
Sponsored by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce
Leadership Albuquerque is an eight-month program meant to enhance the skills and enrich the understanding of current as well as aspiring volunteer community leaders. Forty-five to 50 people are selected each year to participate in once-monthly meetings that emphasize issues important to the community -- including education, healthcare, the environment, and economic development -- and encourage greater civic engagement. Upon completing the program, participants are prepared to lead in both public and private sectors.

Leadership New Mexico
Leadership New Mexico encourages program graduates to assume leadership roles on community and statewide issues and develop networks for effective leadership. The ten-month Core Program includes educational sessions, led by state leaders, designed to address current issues facing the state. Core Program sessions are held in communities all over the state to expose participants to the different regions of New Mexico and the local issues important to each region, including health and human services, economic development, education, the environment, government, crime and justice, and leadership. Leadership New Mexico selects a class each year of 40-45 leaders who represent a cross-section of the  public, private and nonprofit sectors in various regions of the state.

Organizations Committed to Political Parity

Democratic Women of New Mexico
The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) supports the inclusion of women’s voices in the Democratic Party. With 32 chapters nationwide, the NFDW promotes Democratic Party goals and candidates and works to unite women party members behind them. NFDW chapters recognize potential women candidates and encourage their candidacies for office.   Members attend meetings, organize educational and political events, volunteer for campaigns, and support candidates for office.

New Mexico Federation of Republican Women
Through affiliate chapters in nearly every state, the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) promotes the principles, objectives and policies of the Republican Party; elects Republican candidates; informs the public through political education and activity; and increases the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government. In working toward these objectives, the NFRW concentrates its efforts in the areas of educating, communicating, recruiting, campaigning, fundraising, training and legislative action.

New Mexico NOW

Founded in 1966, the National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States whose goal is to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW is a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization that takes a holistic approach to women's rights. The organization's official priorities are winning economic equality and securing it with an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that will guarantee equal rights for women; championing abortion rights, reproductive freedom and other women's health issues; opposing racism and fighting bigotry against lesbians and gays; and ending violence against women. NOW has over 550 chapters in all 50 states that participate in education and advocacy activities. Information on state and local chapters of NOW is available on the national NOW website and through state chapters.

The Republican Majority Fund
Established by former member of Congress Heather Wilson, the Republican Majority Fund is a state political action committee that supports Republicans and provides training for grassroots volunteers and organizers to support candidates' throughout their campaigns. The Republican Majority Fund focuses resources in competitive state and local contests where candidates believe in: free enterprise, free trade, low taxes and fair regulations; reforming government so that it is more efficient, effective and accountable; and being hard working, well qualified leaders of character committed to integrity in public service.
