  • Edwards has represented Maryland's Fourth District (Prince Georges and Anne Arundel Counties) since 2008; first African American woman to represent Maryland in Congress
  • Serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (Subcommittees ¬†on Highways and Transit; Water Resources and Environment; Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management)
  • Serves on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee (Subcommittee on Space - Ranking Member; Subcommittee on Environment)
  • Before entering Congress, was a nonprofit public interest advocate and worked on NASA's Spacelab project. 
  • Co-founder and former executive director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence; led the effort to pass the 1994 Violence Against Women Act
