A total of 79 women will serve in statewide elective executive offices in 2005. 16 women won races for statewide offices in 2004; they will join 63 previously elected holdovers.

Governors
There will be 8 women governors (5D, 2R) serving in 2005. One woman, Ruth Ann Minner (D-DE) won re-election; one woman, Christine Gregoire (D-WA) won an open seat; and six holdovers continue to serve. They are Kathleen Blanco (D-LA); Jennifer Granholm (D-MI); Linda Lingle (R-HI); Janet Napolitano (D-AZ); Jodi Rell (R-CT); and Kathleen Sebelius (D-KS).

Lieutenant Governors
16 women (6D,10R) will serve as lieutenant governors in 2005. They include 1 (1R) newcomer who won her race, 1 (1D) woman re-elected in 2004, and 14 holdovers.
